The Best Moment in Life is Now

Over the last few days, Reena from Yoga With Maheshwari nominated me for the “Best Moment Award” for my posts on The Foolproof Guide To Being A Guru. Reena not just writes a wonderful blog, but is also one of my favorite bloggers. Her posts, and her comments, are genuine, heartfelt, and never dashed off with hurried cliches.

first-best-moment-award-winnerThe Best Moment Award comes from the Moments Matter website. The RULES for this award can be found here. According to the website, it is for awarding bloggers who capture the precious moments in life.

Awarding the people who live in the moment,
The noble who write and capture the best in life,
The bold who reminded us what really mattered –
Savoring the experience of quality time.”

The rules of the award acceptance includes an acceptance speech, so here goes:

“It’s always an honor that someone thinks your work is good enough for an award. It’s an even greater joy for me when it is for capturing the essence of life: this moment. As I grow older, this now-moment grows larger and all-encompassing, and less remains of my life beyond it. Revisiting the state of perpetual wonder with my little son, Nirvaan, every moment feels like the Best Moment. Writing, like meditation, is one of the doorways through which I enter this moment. And though I joyously fail every time to capture the beauty and vital spark of this moment, the time spent is never regretted. Thank you GD for being there to always remind me that who I am being in this moment is more important than what I am doing.”

It’s Liebster Time, My Beloveds!

Have been busy with two film releases for the past week and missing the quiet company of bloggers within the excitement of the film world. Will be back with new insights & cartoons from GD & me this week! In the meantime, happy to have been conferred a Liebster Award from lovely Pavithra of secondattemptinblogging. The name of this award comes from a German word “Liebster” which means ‘Dearest’, ‘Favorite’ or ‘Beloved’ and has been going around since 2010. Sweet!

1.     Write random facts about yourself.
2.     Answer the 11 questions given by the person nominated you.
3.     Fabricate 11 new questions.
4.     Nominate 11 bloggers with under 200 (or 300) followers and mention them in your post.
5.     Tell the person who nominated you, along with the people whom you have nominated.

Random Facts about me:

  1. I used to pretend to read palms in college so I could hold pretty girls’ hands. I had worked out a few stock sentences (“you care for others more than they care for you”) which I realized almost everyone believes are true!
  2.  I am a pickle-fanatic. Have around six different types at any given time at home.
  3. I love my mac products – ipod, ipad, iphone & macbook pro.
  4. I stopped reading fiction for almost 15 years in between.
  5. I don’t know how to drive a car. Embarrassing, but true. Fortunately, I have a fantastic driver.

Here are my answers to Parvathy’s questions:
  1.  What is that one thing you will not give up in your life?
    – From teenage to middle-age, it seems that meditation is a constant. Haven’t given up yet!
  2. Which is your favorite restaurant?
    – Saravana Bhavan in Chennai. Lucky to have a job that requires me to be in Chennai once a week!
  3. What is the one vegetable you cannot live without?
    – Potato. Potato. Potato. No question about that.
  4. What is that one recipe you hate the most?
    – Nothing really. Anything with karela (gourd) probably.
  5. What is your favorite movie in the comedy genre?
    – Bruce Almighty. Can watch it ad infinitum.
  6. Which is the best city to live in the world?
    – For me and my wife, London has a strong past-life calling. I can find my way around there even to places I have not been to before. Everything feels so familiar.
  7. Share a cute or daring memory from your childhood.
    – At age 10, got an adult video tape (…Conan The Barbarian!) telling the library clerk my ‘uncle’ wanted to see it.
  8. Do you know how to dance or sing 🙂
    – I break-danced professionally at weddings when I was a teenager. I sing in E Flat so I have stopped by popular demand.
  9. What is that one thing you would want to teach the world?
    – How to go within and find peace.
  10. Whose name comes to your mind when you think of optimism?
    – My wife.
  11. Name a famous personality who is strong, determined & admirable
    – Shah Rukh Khan & Will Smith
Here are the lovely blogs I want you all to check out! To my liebster bloggers: if you have over 200 or 300 followers, my bad. I think your blog is amazing so you can do it anyway!

Two Blog Awards – Thank You!

Just got back from a work trip to South India to find joyous tidings in my comments inbox!

My lovely new blogger friend Arjuna at The Wondrous Dharma has nominated me for the ONE LOVELY BLOG AWARD. And my old blogroll fave Jillian Kermani has nominated me for the VERY INSPIRING BLOGGER AWARD! Thank you guys — I feel like THIS happy gal doing cartwheels on the beach! ——————->

I don’t have that many things to say about myself, so I will take the cue from Jillian and the liberty to combining the awards.

  1. I am left-handed.
  2. I am a Gemini, and according to my astrological chart, I have six planets in Gemini which makes me pretty dual-natured. My one side loves movies, the other loves meditation.
  3. During a past life regression, I saw myself in 1830s Londontown where I was ostracized for questioning the Bible. Dying slowly of poverty, starvation and cold, I was forced to kill my little daughters and myself. Maybe because of this, I still have a fear of speaking up about my spiritual side in public!
  4. At one point, I stopped reading fiction for around 12 years – devouring spiritual books or work related non-fiction. Now I enjoy the occasional Murakami and Steig Larsson.
  5. Films I can watch again and again: Bruce Almighty, The Devil Wears Prada, Love Actually.
  6. I adore my 2.8 year old son Nirvaan. I spend half and hour with him every night showing him exhaust fans and elevators on youtube (yes, there are people who upload videos of exhaust fans being switched on and off).
  7. Macbook, iPod, iPad, iPhone… I am a fully Mac person. Or you can say: an “iPerson”.

There, that was the tough part… now for the fun part!

And my nominations for ONE LOVELY BLOG AWARD are… *drumroll*

  1. UnfindableSelf by Colette Kelso – very clear and sometimes brutally honest observations about the spiritual path. Love it.
  2. Analyfe by Erin – “The subjective perspective of an analytical optimist” is how she describes her blog. Lovely observations about life, books and the mind is how I would desscribe it.
  3. Snoring Dog Studio – Love her watercolors of her boston terriers, and her observations.
  4. Mindful Mothering – Meghan Nathanson doesn’t write as often as I would like (can’t blame a mother of a little baby), but when she does, its a sheer joy to read.
  5. Awake in Los Angeles – Robert Adams, Nisargadatta Maharaj, Rumi on one blog… need I say more?
  6. The Slama Family Project – Lovely blogs about conscious parenting, earth exploring and natural living.
  7. Free Penny Press – A funky grab-bag of poetry, reviews, books, art.
  8. Mommy Go Lightly – Anyone who hasn’t yet discovered this blog is missing a wealth of insight and humor into marriage and parenting. I discovered it because my wife raves about her posts and sits chuckling with her laptop every few days.
  9. The Healed Writer – Alix asked this question “What would you write if it wasn’t about the money?” and got me hooked onto his lovely blog. Hope to meet her in person someday. Lovely smiling face.
  10. KelseyNic Horton – Uplifting, inspiring and creative blog. Hope I got the name right!
  11. Ooggetuige – Willem-Jan Schipper is a photographer with a gift of making you fall in love with every person he shoots.
  12. Million Happy Endings –  I don’t understand the “Second Life” part of her blog, but her observations on this life are worth reading.
  13. Dhamma Footsteps – Theravada Buddhism with some beautiful writings with a hint of laughter and lots of self-reflection.
  14. Living in the Monastery Without Walls – Just the title should be enough to get you to visit. Lots and lots of goodies.
  15. Jyo Aadarsh – Very fresh and enthusiastic blogging about living on the path of devotion.

The directions for receiving the One Lovely Blog Award are:-

  • Mention who nominated you and link back to his/her blog
  • Display the award image
  • Reveal 7 things about yourself
  • Nominate 15 blogs for the award, leave them a comment telling them of the nomination (including a link back to your post), and provide links to their blogs in your post

Now for the VERY INSPIRING BLOG AWARD. My nominations for this are…

  1. The Heart of the Matter by Amrita Skye Blaine – one of the first blogs I ever followed, and haven’t regretted it for a single post. Only the highest quality Advaita observations here.
  2. Enjoy Life for Once – A blessed blog by meandering misfit Jennifer Stuart. As she puts it: a blog about “alternative healing applied to western worries”
  3. Prana And Peaches – Colleen writes, in her words, about “yoga, cats, health and smut”. A great and gifted writer.
  4. Life is But A Dream – I adore Shantideva’s picks of anecdotes, quotes and poems. A must-read for me.
  5. Ease of Being – Very heartfelt and earnest seeker’s perspective on Advaita. Her August 13 Post “Pulling the Plug” on life with her teacher Scott Kiloby is one of my favorite posts ever.
  6. Life is Unwritten – My new fave blog. The “Miracle of Math” post is absolutely outstanding.
  7. Tracie Louise Photography – I always want to put one “like” for her pictures, and another “like” for the words she writes along with it. She manages a perfect combination of word and image every time.

And the rules are…

  • Display the award certificate on your blog.
  • Announce your win with a post and include a link to whoever presented your award.
  • Present seven awards to deserving bloggers. Create a post linking to them and drop them a comment to tip them off.
  • Post seven interesting facts about yourself.

Phew! Apologies for so many nominations in one go – I don’t mean to diminish the value and beauty of any individual blog. If any of you have already received this award, please consider it an honorary mention – a reminder of how much your time and effort means to strangers halfway across the world. And thank you for being inspiring and lovely blogs for me for the past three months 🙂
